George Bernard Shaw once said: “There is no sincerer love than the love of food.” It might not be true, generally speaking, but many of us have a deep emotional connection with food. It is always a pleasure to discover different food destinations, visit restaurants, and try food or drinks you never did before. Therefore, we’ve compiled a list of top 5 food destinations, that every real epicure doesn’t want to miss in 2019.

Sydney

The city you most likely won’t miss if you plan to visit Australia. However, its food, craft spirits, and beer scene is the reason more to reserve your ticket this year. When it comes to food, people in Sydney rely heavily on breakfast culture. If you like South American menu, go to Reuben Hills and enjoy Honduran baleada, which is the classic, delicious dish. At Shuk, the popular eatery on Bondi beach, you can try their unique combination of Mediterranean and Israeli food. Famous shakshuka, egg dish in a tomato and pepper sauce, is the No1 choice. Also, don’t forget to show some love to a continually growing craft spirit and beer scene in Sydney. Archie Rose whiskey distillery is a place to go with its beautiful spirits and cocktails.

Saigon (Ho Chi Minh)

Saigon is well-known for its street food and simple recipes. Most importantly, dishes are diverse, containing heavy meats, light rice carbs, and fresh herbs. Furthermore, many of those cost less than $1! Sup cua (crab soup) is maybe the most popular one, mostly due to its high nutritional value. It’s made of crab, chicken, mushrooms, herbs and eggs, with the addition of chili and soy sauce. Another well-known dish you can find all over Saigon is bot chien; ice flour cakes fried in a flat pan together with whipped eggs and green onions. Afterward, it is served with papaya, pickles, and fish sauce. Our last recommendation would be che chuoi nuong – baked banana with rice layer and coconut sauce. However, if you are skeptical about street food, inform yourself about the best restaurants in Saigon before your flight.

New York City

Diverse population in a big city such as New York logically leads to various food offer. You can eat whatever you want, at any time! But, there are few things more important than the rest. Bagels are the symbol of NYC. People usually eat them for breakfast, and you can find them on almost every corner. Furthermore, New York is the place where you can find some of the best pizzas in the whole of US. Beebe’s, Roberta’s or Di Fara are all phenomenal choices. Chinatown is also the place you don’t want to miss. Even if you are familiar with Chinese cuisine, you should try a few authentic dishes here. Also, there is one more dominant scene you shouldn’t neglect – the amazing mixology in NYC! If you are looking for a mixology service or cocktail catering, New York will provide you with a truly staggering array of delicious options.

San Sebastian

Some people call it the food capital of the planet. Maybe because three of San Sebastian restaurants (Akelarre, Arzak, and Martin Berasategui) deserved the prestigious three Michelin star award. In any of these restaurants (and in many others), you should try some of the most delicious and freshest seafood. We recommend kokotxas (hake cheeks), lenguado (sole), and percebes (goose barnacles). Pintxos are also a must try if you come to the Basque country. They combine small pieces of bread with various stuff, such as cheese, Spanish ham, or chorizo. In the end, don’t forget to buy some fresh fruit at local markets of San Martin and La Bretxa. The best restaurants in the city are sourcing their fruit and vegetables for their dishes.

Lima

The capital of Peru is one of the four cities that have three restaurants (Central, Maido, and Astrid y Gaston) on the list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. That being said, there’s no doubt your sense of taste will be more than pleased. One of the classic Peruvian dishes you have to try is ceviche – raw fish marinated in lime juice. Since Lima is close to the ocean, it is the best city to taste this meal. Lomo Saltado is another must-try dish – an unusual combination of beef, vegetables, French fries, and fried rice. When it comes to drinks, if you prefer alcohol, try the pisco sour, famous Peruvian drink. On the other hand, there is a delicious, non-alcoholic, purple corn drink – Chicha Morada. Drink it with a squeeze of lime juice for the ultimate pleasure.

Reaching all these gorgeous places in 12 months is tough. However, if you manage to visit one or two of these cities, you can consider this year fulfilled.
